Edward Kennedy- Scion of the Kennedy Dyanasty 1932-2009

Edward Moore "Ted" Kennedy aspired to be like his brothers John and Robert. The three brothers ran for President on separate occasions, but the eldest of the trio, John, succeeded. Bobby was shot down while campaigning for the top office. And Ted himself had a run for the presidency in 1980- imagine what the world would have been like had he won and beat Ronald Wilson Reagan, the retired governor of California. Kennedy was the second most senior member of the Senate, after West Virginia Democrat Robert Byrd, and third longest serving- at nine terms- again, Byrd wins hands down at 50 years. At the time of his death, at 77, last night, Kennedy had served a total of 46 years (and 292 days).

Like his brothers, he had his share of scandal. 40 years ago last month, Kennedy drove off the Dike Bridge into the Poucha Pond inlet on Chappaquiddick Island on Martha's Vineyard. One of the members of the "Boiler Room Girls"- a group of women who were supporting Bobby Kennedy's run for the office- Mary Jo Kopechne was a passenger. She drowned, while Ted Kennedy swam to safety. Kennedy plead guilty days later to leaving the scene of an accident, and was sentenced to two months in jail. The sentence was suspended. Even so, he remained in Congress for another 40 years.

As many know, Kennedy wore his liberalism on his sleeve. One of the things that stand out, for me, at least, about Senator Kennedy is his battle to keep federal judge Robert Bork from being confirmed in the US Supreme Court. Now, a bit of personal back story, at the time, I was a flag-waving, "pro-life", Southern Baptist- and Republican. The church I went to, First Baptist Church of Atlanta, is the home of In Touch Ministries, in which the senior pastor Charles Frazier Stanley still presides today (he's been head pastor for 38 years). Pastor Stanley passionately wanted Bork in the Supreme Court. After all, Stanley believed that Bork would put "God back in the schools, etc." Senator Kennedy, however, believed that Bork would move back the clock on civil rights and the right to choose between abortion and carrying to full term. Needless to say, Bork was not confirmed to the court. It also affected how Washington did business with controversial nominees and/or candidates.

Last year, Kennedy was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, in which he had surgery for. He cut down his workload, but was able to attend President Obama's inauguration this year. However, he suffered a seizure that day, which was attributed to exhaustion.

Kennedy's death comes just two weeks after his sister Eunice Kennedy Shriver died at 88. Kennedy is survived by wife Victoria, sister Jean Kennedy Smith, and three children, Kara Anne Kennedy, Edward Moore Kennedy, Jr., and US Representative Patrick Joseph Kennedy II, who serves the 1st Congressional district of Rhode Island.

    Al Franken Makes Sixty

The Minnesota Supreme Court has ordered the state to certify Democrat Al Franken's win in the United States senate, which will bring the number of Democrats in the senate to sixty (actually 58 democrats, and two independents). This ends eight months of legal wrangling, in which Republican Norm Coleman attempted to state that voting irregularities in the absentee votes were enough to deny Franken a win. But now that Franken has won, there will be enough votes to stop any filibuster that any Republicans may attempt.

Franken, a former performer and writer for NBC's "Saturday Night Live", ran for the senate last fall. It was thought that Coleman, former mayor of St. Paul, had won re-election, but Franken fought when an apparent 312 absentee votes were found after election day. Coleman fought to have his win certified.

Illinois Governor Headed For Unemployment Line

The US Senate seat vacated by then-Senator (now President) Barack Obama was a golden seat, up for grabs. Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, who- like Obama- is a democrat, apparently saw this as a golden egg too good to let go of. Besides, he didn't want this to fall back into Republican hands, right?

Well, the US Senate seat is still in Democrats' hands- Obama's replacement is a 71-year-old African-American. But Illinois state senators- obviously in a nonpartisan vote, of 59-0- decided that Blagojevich wasn't fit for office. So, as of now, Pat Quinn becomes the new governor of Illinois.

Blagojevich was arrested last month on federal corruption charges, for reportedly trying to sell Obama's senate seat. Blagojevich said that he didn't do anything wrong, but evidence- including several taped messages- stacked up against him.
But Blago did make a last second appeal to stay in office:

Blagojevich cannot run or hold public office in Illinois ever again. See what happens when you cheat, Mr. Now-Ex-Governor?

NBC 5 Chicago has the full report, just click on the title for the link. Also at the link are the transcripts from the wiretaps- get at least one of those on your external or internal hard drives (I have the entire 78 page affidavit on my flash drive. Makes for good reading...).

    Liz, Where's Your Ring, Honey?

    I can explain this.

You see, Liz Edwards and myself have started an affair. You know, as revenge for that good-for-nothing cad cheating on her. And he did it while running for the office of el presidente AND while she's dealing with cancer. How in the fuck can he do such a thing?

All kidding on the Liz loves Darren tryst aside, Elizabeth Edwards went to Washington this week to talk about health care. But many had noticed that Ms. (forget about calling her 'Mrs.')Edwards wasn't wearing her wedding band. which may mean that one, she may have forgotten it accidentally on purpose, or that she may have left it behind. Accidentally on purpose. Either way, it looks like Liz may have come to her senses and dumped that son of a bitch John out to the pig sty, where he can oink like one while stoking Miss Piggy (go ahead, Johnny. Roll in the mud...).

As we all know by now, John had an affair with a filmmaker who chronicled his presidential run. Rielle Hunter said at the time of the revelation (of the affair) that John is the baby daddy of the girl she gave birth to earlier this year. John still denies this, so I guess we're going to have to make a call to TV talk show host Maury Povich, and put ol' Johnny on Maury. Imagine the ratings skyrocketing over that.

White Supremacists' Plot to Kill Obama Thwarted

Oh, what is it about these neo-Nazis and white supremacists- and basically almost anyone in the Republican Party, for that matter- wanting to make sure Barack Obama doesn't make it to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW? First, there's the Reverend Wright debacle, then Joe 'the Plumber' Wurzelbacher. Next, this thing about Obama not even American. Truth of the matter, I'm taking that with a grain of salt.

    rodneykingstrikesback/MSNBC/YouTube

But the white supremacy thing is like a STD or cancer run amok- it apparently doesn't want to die. Sure, Obama will be the first black president of the United States, but hey, change is good, right? Apparently not, for every white neo-Nazi knucklehead's blood is boiling over the likelihood of having a black man in office. I guess they're afraid that the White House will be renamed the 'Africa House' or something.

Still, Daniel Cowart, 20, and Paul Schlesselman, 18 (that last name sounds Jewish, Paul...) are charged with illegal possession of a sawed-off shotgun; conspiracy to rob a federally licensed gun store; and of course, making threats against a presidential candidate. What the two planned to do was to 'kill 100 African-Americans, including beheading 14 of them (the number '14' in neo-Nazi culture means fourteen words: "We must secure the existence of our People and a future for white children". This quote is attributed to David Lane, a white nationalist. The numeral 14 is often seen next to the number 88- which happen to mean the initials of 'Heil Hitler'. At any rate, 14 dead blacks just ensure the future of the white race. Gee, my heroes!)

You'd think that after 40 or so years, we'd have the sense to believe that all are created equal, with equal chances to succeed if we only set our minds to our goals. Obama, obviously, is successful in his endeavors- and may he continue to do so. These two clowns believe in some ideology that says that blacks (or any other group that isn't Aryan, white, etc...) are inferior.

Funny thing is, any supremacy group- be it black, white, or other- who thinks like that seem to suffering from the same complex that they accuse the other of- having inferiority complex. Of course, they'll deny it.

What a Stirring Speech That was, Barack!

    C-SPAN/YouTube

Now that's a refreshing sight to see!

I've just finished wasting bytes on the computer writing about Alaska governor Sarah Palin, who John McCain has tapped as his running mate.

I can hardly wait until next week when that fucking windbag McCain tells his lies at the Republican National Convention.

But until then, I'm going to relax to the soothing sounds of Barack Hussein Obama II.

This guy is definitely a stand up man, doesn't suffer fools gladly. And he is definitely an out of the box thinker. He loves his wife Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama, and his daughters Malia Ann and Sasha. AND HE LOVES HIS COUNTRY! (you Repugnant-cans get that?). He's a Christian (though try telling that to some of my Republican friends) as a member of the United Church of Christ.

He'll make a great President. And I'm proud to support and stand by him.

    EIGHT IS ENOUGH!

The echo that the current dolt-in-chief will hear from now to January 20, 2009. Say it loud! Say it proud, Democrats and, Independents, and Republicans pissed off at George Walker Bush.

    Keep packing, Georgie.

Hillary Supports Obama (But, Words Mean Nothing...)

    PoliticsTV/YouTube

Inspiring, isn't it? Hillary Clinton rallying the troops to vote for Barack Obama for President. But I can't help but wonder if she was really simmering inside and wishing that John McCain would beat the stuffing out of the sophomore senator out of Illinois (or is it 'junior' senator?). After all, Barack didn't choose her for running mate, and her supporters- at least some of them- were so goddamned pissed off that they jumped ship to that misogynist John McCain's side (okay, maybe ol' Johnny's not a wife beater, but he sure does have a temper, doesn't he?).

I talked with a few friends today, and we speculated that perhaps Hillary could mount her own campaign for President as an independent. Hey, it could happen, I guess, and if such a scenario were to happen, then this race could really get interesting. A Clinton-McCain-Obama race (you can pretty much write off that ol' fussbudget Ralph Nader) could throw things in a tailspin.

Either way you want to looks at this, this will be one close election. Yes, in a small way, this is about race- a black man against a white one. We shouldn't even be worrying about skin color in 2008, but unfortunately we are (this race conversation is another animal for another day), but largely, it's about what direction what we want this country to go for at least the next four years.

    Obama-Biden. Yeah, I Like That

    CBS

Saturday, Illinois senator Barack Obama had chosen the senator from Delaware, Joe Biden for his running mate. Biden is a no-holds barred type of guy, who speaks from the hip, and- not surprisingly- a major thorn in the republicans ass. He has foreign policy experience- something Obama lacks a bit, so the Biden pairing will definitely help Obama on foreign relations.

A brief bio on Mr. Biden. Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. was born November 20, 1942 in Scranton, PA. He became a senator in 1973, and served on several committees- including his current chairmanship in the Foreign Relations Committee. He ran for president in 1998 and this year. He has been married twice- his first wife Neilia and his infant daughter Naomi died in a car accident in 1972. In 1988, he suffered a brain aneurysm. He's currently married to the former Jill Tracy Jacobs, and has one daughter, Ashley (he has two other children- Beau and Hunter from Neilia). By trade, he is an attorney.

He dropped out of this year's Democratic presidential campaign when he received 1% of Iowa's delegates.

Today is the start of the Democratic National Convention, at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Michelle Obama- the presumptive first lady- will deliver a speech tonight. Also today, a video tributes to Massachusetts senator Edward Kennedy and President Jimmy Carter. Tuesday night, New York senator and former first lady Hillary Clinton will deliver the prime time address. Joe Biden will accept the vice presidential nomination Wednesday night.

Thursday night, at Invesco field nearby (under the stars- skies are forecast to be clear). 76,000 lucky audience members will be among history in the making, as Barack Obama accepts his nomination for the office of President of the United States. No doubt, this will be a momentous occasion. One of high energy, and passion. As only the Obama-Biden ticket can deliver. So, I'll definitely be watching Thursday night.

Clinton Supporters, GET OVER IT!: But a few people plan to spoil the party. and even though they're not getting help from the Republicans- who hold their convention next week- they are helping the Republicans salivate, albeit indirectly. It appears that since Obama didn't pick New York senator Hillary Clinton for a running mate- let alone Hil becoming the nominee herself- they're not very happy having him take center stage. So unhappy, some intend to vote for the Republican presumptive nominee, John McCain (even though McCain is too busy sleeping with those intolerant evangelicals who want government to ban reproductive and gay rights...Darren sighs and shakes his head...).

Guys and gals, get over it. Obama's the man...that is, unless you want a third Bush administration. And that's what we'll get if John McCain becomes our 44th Chief Executive.

    John Edwards- Slimeball.

    YouTube

I hope you're hearing this, Johnny Reid Edwards!

If you're a Democrat- like this blogger- your blood is boiling over the admission by former North Carolina senator John Edwards of his affair with a novice filmmaker Rielle Hunter, 44. What's pretty goddamned fucked up over this is the fact that one, he porked this girl as his poor wife Elizabeth was- and probably still is- suffering from breast cancer, and two, as he was campaigning for President.

Never mind that the first source of news that picked this up was some Florida-based tabloid rag called The National Enquirer, but kids, it's still a mighty blow to us Democrats. After all, we're still reeling a bit from the Eliot Spitzer tryst with some call girl.

Sure it's small comfort that he's not going to be occupying the Oval Office, but still, the shit hurts bad, America. The point I'm making here is that his full attention should have been on Liz- and for that matter, his presidential campaign. But instead, he fucks his documentary filmmaker, and now there's a baby involved.

And Edwards DENIES that he's the baby daddy. What gives, Johnny Reid?

As you watch this Michael Jackson video, substitute 'Rielle' for 'Billie Jean'

    SonyEh1/YouTube

There are times when I just love that Michael- especially when he comes in handy for news like this.

All respect I had for Mr. Edwards has obviously went out the door.

Obama is a Hollywood Diva? Oh, Mr. McCain, How About those Hiltons?

You've seen the ads on TV:
    ITN/YouTube

Glad you do approve, John. After all, Obama's a media darling, and McCain...well...

If anyone had watched last night's edition of Comedy Central's
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, you may have learned a bit something-something about the Vietnam veteran who wants to be the 44th President. Watch the video below, then come back...go on. Do it. (I'll wait).

Special thanks to Comedy Central for that clip.

    Welcome back.

It seems that our ol' buddy John Sidney McCain III- the Republican US senator out of the great state of Arizona- is being a bit hypocritical of his Hollywood connections.
Can he explain the $4600 he got from the Hilton family- yes, the family that owns the upscale hotel chain, and whose heiress may or may not be a out-of-control party girl who has a singing voice that's overdosed on helium?

So, let me ask, Johnny boy, about your being let in to Hollywood's hottest clubs with...um, Paris? Obviously, it's been many a night in Paris, right? Does Cindy know about this?

Okay, that above statement obviously isn't true (at least, as far as the general public knows...but hey, that could be the 'October surprise'. I can see the headline now: MCCAIN AND PARIS IN HOT TRYST: HILTON FAMILY PAYS MCCAIN TO SHUT UP...), but I couldn't help but to have fun with this little tidbit.

And ABC News says that more people get their news from them (than any other source). They, I'm deathly afraid, forgot about The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. O vey.

Think That Would've Worked For the Clintons?

Just after Illinois senator Barack Obama claimed victory in the Democratic presidential race, he and wife Michelle bumped fists. You saw the footage, right?

    rednecknews/YouTube/NBC News

Redneck News? Think rednecks do the pound fist, too? Hmmm...anyway. It was the 'fist bump' heard around the world, and apparently not everyone understands what it means. I know what you're thinking, "it's a black thing I'll probably never understand...", even though a lot of folks of all ethnicities do this these days. Just like gangsta rap, right? (But that's neither here nor there at this juncture...).

Okay, I won't say that black folks invented the 'gimme five slap', but they knew how to redefine it. Just like the 'fist bump'. Kind of like a 'high five', if you will. Now, I don't claim to be an expert on this, so I went to Wikipedia for some kind of answer. According to Wikipedia, in Jamaica, it's seen as a sign of respect.

But whatever the origins, it seems pretty cool. And when the Obamas did theirs last night, it was like the sloppy spit swapping of Al and Tipper Gore from 2000- only much less showy and much less...um, sloppier. It (the Obama 'fist bump') was tasteful; showed class. Showed that the man who may be our next president is hip, accessible, and who knows? He may actually be the one who is much more honest that the current occupant of the Oval Office.

Well, At Least He Can Enjoy the Retirement in Crawford

First, my heart gets broken over Jenna Bush's weekend wedding- the flood I'm in is almost up to my head (yeah, it's that bad, folks...lol!).

Now, that flood's about to get a lot higher, but I'm not sad. Click on the title, where you'll be directed to the website Citizen Sugar. Watch the video, and tell me- in the comments box whether our intrepid Commander in Chief has a future in country music. Oh, types like Alan Jackson and George Strait may agree (those traditionalist country music types all think alike, don't they?), but I'm not sure the rest of us do.

OBAMA'S JUST ABOUT THERE: Looks like talk show host Rush Limbaugh's wet dream of Hillary Clinton winning the Democratic presidential nomination may remain just that- a dream. The freshman US senator from Illinois is 132 delegates away from clinching the presumptive nomination. The remaining states who have primaries:
Kentucky, with 51 delegates; and Oregon, with 52. Both hold their primaries next Tuesday. Right now, Obama leads in the Portland Tribune/KPTV Fox 12 poll by a 20 point margin (55-35, with 20% undecided). Word has it that Obama will declare victory in Oregon, that he has the majority number of candidates to become the nominee.

Puerto Rico has its' Democratic primary on June 1, they have 55 delegates. Two days later, South Dakota has theirs, as will Montana. I'm aware that the Republicans hold their Idaho primary on May 27, and their New Mexico on June 3, but with Arizona senator John McCain being the presumptive nominee, at this point, it's no longer a big deal.

But Hillary Clinton's win in West Virginia last night- by a 67-26 margin- may have dented things a bit for Obama. It seems that Obama can't connect with some rural voters, and according to CNN, some Clinton supporters may jump ship over to the McCain camp. But if Obama can win Oregon, Kentucky, and even Puerto Rico, then he will indeed be the likely nominee for the Democrats. But, if Hillary wins any of the states- say, Kentucky and Montana- this drama may extend into the national convention at the Pepsi Center in Denver in August.

Rush Limbaugh's strangely erotic dream may go on a bit longer, indeed.

    IT'S JUST A T-SHIRT, Y'ALL!
A Marietta, Georgia bar owner created a t-shirt, with a Curious George-like monkey eating a banana. On the bottom: 'Obama in '08'.

Not surprisingly, not many are amused.

    CNN Headline News/YouTube
The owner says that he means no racism in this tee. But you have to remember one thing, kids, you connect a monkey- be it a real one or a cartoon one- to a black person, famous or no, to them that's more like cruisin' for a bruisin'. So, this owner may not like what others have to say about him, let along his character.

    Hello, Kristen.

A young woman who goes by the name of Kristen- real name Ashley Alexandra Dupre- is apparently the young hottie who brought the political career of New York governor Eliot Laurence 'Client #9' Spitzer's career to a crashing end.

Spitzer, as we all know, has been linked to a federal case concerning the Emperor's Club VIP, a high class prostitution ring. According to a section of the 47-page document releases to the public, 'Client #9' met 'Kristen' met at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC on February 13 and 14, and collected $4300 in cash.

OOOOOH, BABY! The governor and his young date doing da nasty in DC.

You can read this New York Times story by just clicking here to http://nytimes.com/2008/03/13/nyregion/12cnd-kristen.html?_r=1&oref=slogin , as well as the link to WCBS-TV, by just clicking on the title.

No doubt, I know of two adult magazines that are fighting for first dibs on Kristen. All i can ask of Hugh and Larry is, "boys, please be civil."

(Then again, let the scuffle for first rights begin. I love nasty fights. And I love scandals, too)

Of course, the legal ramifications of Mr. Spitzer's actions could go far beyond his not keeping his end on keeping government clean. Let's see the shit list 'Client #9 could face:
    (Source WCBS-TV New York)

    • Money laundering for trying to conceal the source and recipient of financial transactions
    • Tax evasion, if he was an all-knowing party to an all-cash business that wasn't filing taxes
    • Violation of the Mann act for paying for the trip from New York to DC by the call girl known as 'Kristen' (The Mann Act prohibits interstate transport of sex slaves, and/or prostitutes)
    • Misuse of state resources, if he used his state-issued credit card for hotels or meals with prostitutes as well as if he was being protected by State Troopers during his dalliances...and finally...
    • Soliciting prostitution

Court documents say that he may have spent up to $80,000 on escort services. OUCH!

If convicted, he could serve a year in jail for being a john, and up to 20 years for money laundering.

In a sense, he's getting a taste of his own medicine- after all, he's the dumbass who raised the penalty for soliciting hookers.

    Tsk, tsk, tsk...

'Client 9' Resigns as New York Governor

    barryfunnytv/YouTube

Even bad singing sounds good when the news of New York governor Eliot 'Client #9' Spitzer's resignation hits the wire.

    topnewsmakers/YouTube

Spitzer will step down by Monday. His lieutenant governor, David Paterson, will take the oath of office of governor and will be the state's first black governor.

A lot of women around America are, however, asking, "How could Silda (Spitzer's wife) stand by this bum?" Cue Tammy Wynette:

    andreseries/YouTube

Of course, privately, I bet Silda is conferring with her divorce lawyers. But divorce may be the least of his troubles. He may be facing criminal charges- after all, in many jurisdictions, prostitution is illegal. And if he is indeed convicted for promoting the world's oldest profession, he could be wearing prison pinstripes- and probably changing his name to 'Ellen'.

    blatz12/YouTube

A footnote to this: I'm reading the 47 page document now. I skimmed through the part where 'Client #9' met with one of the defendants (let's just say that the first name may imply that this woman is black...didn't know that Client #9 Spitz liked dark meat better...). I'm actually up to page 19, but if you can't wait that long, go to page 26, part 'b'- February 13, 2008, Interstate Transportation From New York to Washington, DC.

    Sources: Spitzer Closer to Resignation

About a day after New York governor Eliot Spitzer admitted that he paid about $4300 for a call girl, sources say that he is close to calling it quits in Albany. Meanwhile, state assemblyman James Tedisco (R-Schenectady) is considering impeaching Spitzer. He, along with others, are calling for Spitzer to step down as governor. If Spitzer does resign, New York could get its' first black governor, David Paterson, the current lieutenant governor.

Click on the title for the full story from Newsday out of New York City. If you want to see the full affidavit, click here to: http://wnbc.com/download/2008/0310/15557442.pdf.

As a fellow Democrat, I think Spitz should call it quitz...quits, quitz. Couldn't pass up the temptation to go into word play. I looked at tyhe Newsday website, and the video interviews with the common Joes and Janes on the street (mostly Janes). Just about all of them say that they couldn't stand by their men if they found out that they've been cheating with prostitutes (or if you prefer, call girls...escorts...). Of course, with Spitzer- and many others, be it in politics or entertainment- being in high profile positions, that spotlight and magnifying glass will always be on them, and one slip up could cause that already fragile house of cards to crumple.

Like I said yesterday, not every scandal brings personalities down- some even elevated those who weathered the storm (just ask the man born William Jefferson Blythe IV). How Eliot Spitzer handles this may very much determine whether he still has any political life left.

New York Governor Caught in Prostitution Ring

New York governor Eliot Spitzer must be sporting a few bruises tonight- and not all of them verbal potshots from his Republican opponents. Or even fellow Democrats.

The man those in the New York media are calling 'Client #9' admitted today that he was involved in a prostitution ring, and has apologized to his family and his constituents. The wife may be forgiving- even though she may be talking with lawyers about ending her marriage to this crook- but voters...they're entirely different animals altogether.

Of course, extramarital affairs don't always hurt political careers- face it, Bill Clinton received blow jobs while in the Oval Office from some fatso who graduated from Lewis and Clark College here in Moscow on the Willamette; and San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom was re-elected last November despite having an extramarital tryst. Hell, it looks like even that closeted gay Republican senator from Idaho, Larry Craig isn't hurt by his little bathroom assignation.

I could go "Gasp! How could you, Eliot?", or "Shame on you! You're a disgrace to Democrats." But I won't do that.

After all, it hardly surprises me anymore that politicians are sometimes apt to have affairs, too.

I'm just surprised that the current occupant of the White House doesn't acknowledge his. I guess he's too afraid of Laura.

McCain Clinches Republican Presidential Nomination; Ohio Democratic Fight Too Close To Call

As expected, Arizona senator John Mccain has clinched the Republican presidential nomination. He has surpassed the magic number of 1,191 delegates, and has 1,207 delegates to Mike Huckabee's 247.

Huckabee has dropped out and- along with President Bush- will support McCain. Texas senator Ron Paul is still in the race, even as he isn't really on the radar screen.

In my home state of Ohio, it's still a fist fight, and pretty damn bloody at that. Thus far, Hillary Clinton- as I write this- is winning so far (35% of the precincts as I write this). 162 delegates are up for grabs. So I'm basically writing this in real time. Likewise, it's a very tight fight in Texas.

Clinton is the projected winner in Rhode Island, Obama wins Vermont.

7:33PM PST/10:33PM EST: With 45% of the precincts, Clinton continues to hold a formidable lead over Obama 56-42 in Ohio (former challenger John Edwards has 2%. Source, WBNS-TV, Columbus). In Texas, with 15% of the precincts reporting, Clinton trails Clinton by two percentage votes. 228 delegates are up for grabs in the Lone Star state. (Sources, CNN, KPRC-TV, Houston).

7:42PM PST/9:42PM CST: In Texas, the fight is tighter now.
Both Clinton and Obama have 49% of the vote.

I'm looking at the state of Ohio, the county where I was born, Franklin- where the state capital of Columbus is also the county seat- Barack Obama is pretty much a winner there. Cuyahoga County, where Cleveland is located, Clinton leads. In Hamilton County, where Cincinnati is located- and a Republican stronghold- Obama leads 60%.

7:55PM PST/10:55PM EST: CNN projects that Hillary Clinton has won the state of Ohio, taking the 57% of the vote. This could bring her back in the lead.

    In Texas, it's still close.

Stay with CNN for the latest.

    The California Democratic Debate

    All Clips: Hobobob10/YouTube/CNN

The opening seems like a sporting event, with Wolf Blitzer and his sideline reporters talking about what each team will have to do to win, and what strategies each will use. Obama acknowleges Edwards, and that he'll be a friend to the senator- and ex-first lady- from New York even as they tear each others' throats out.

    How charming.

According to NewsMax, the conservative magazine, Hillary is headed for a crash. Funny, she looks quite ravishing...I think.

    Clinton also acknowledges John Edwards.

She mentions that the differences between her and Obama in health care. she believes that we need universal health care. (Heard of the Oregon Health Plan, Hil?) She also wants to freeze interest rates for five years. Obama says that reducing costs in health care would be better, opposed to the Universal plan Clinton endorses.
Of course, he's against the War on Terrorism- been so since day one. I don't like the war myself, but we're in it, so we've got to win it in the end.

On health care, he wants it mandatory for children.

Both agree that something needs to be done about the hemmoraging southern border. Clinton wants to help Mexico create better jobs. Both agree that those who are in this country illegally can go on a path of legal citizenship, provided that they pay the fines and back taxes.

With Super Tuesday looming, both candidates are- doubtlessly- fighting tooth and nail for the vote. just like in the Republican race for the nomination, whoever wins the majority of the twenty states this Tuesday will likely go on to win the nomination in Denver.

But as close as this race on the Democrat side is, it could pretty much end up as a toss up.
