Killer Who Tried to Feed Victim's remains to Hogs Sentenced

This appears to be the perfect plot out of, say, The Sopranos, or a horror film.

    Except, this is real life.

Leonardo Garcia Gonzalez, 23, chopped up Christopher Lampkin's body after shooting him execution style, and tried to feed it to pigs.

Judge Dennis Graves, in Marion County court in Salem, Oregon, sentenced Gonzales to life with the possibility of parole after 30 years.

    Arnold Endorses McCain

Senator John Mcain's (R-Arizona) pulse must be pretty strong these days, and a lot of love is given to him, no doubt.

Click on the title to go to the CBS 2 Los Angeles story and video.

On the heels of former New York mayor Rudy Guiliani's endorsement (and his dropping out of the presidential race), California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (L.A.'s next mayor?...just a thought, kids...) has thrown in his support for Mccain. Schwarzenegger believes that McCain can keep the country secure, and can win overe moderates (whereas Schwarzenegger is one) and independents.

However, one person isn't giving the love back.

Former Massachusetts governor Willard 'Mitt' Romney says that McCain isn't conservative enough. McCain fought back...oh, just watch the clips!

(Clips courtesy of YouTube, Hobobob10, and CNN):

Mike Huckabee has fallen behind. It appears to me that he may drop out in the race within the next 30-60 days. If Huckabee doesn't win at least three states- and this is my opinion- next Tuesday, Super Tuesday, it appears that he'll drop out. Who he'll endorse, that's anyone's guess. (Hell, who I'll endorse on the Democrats' side...damn, it'll be awhile before I make my choice).

I have to admire Texas senator Ron Paul for his spunk. Before Guiliani dropped out yesterday, he was in next to last place. But now that he is in last place, it's almost like David-and-Goliath. Yet he's not quitting.

But for the moment now, it's McCain's streak. It's still close, and Romney could retake the lead come Tuesday. It's definitely going to be fisticuffs between the man nicknamed 'the Maverick', and the ex-governor from one of the most liberal states in the Union.

I Got a Heart Attack Watching the Super Bowl!

    Picture this scene.

It's Super Bowl Sunday- as in this Sunday, February 3. The New England Patriots and New York Giants are duking it out in Glendale, Arizona. You, Joe Sixpack (and I, Darren Twelve-Pack...don't ask...) are no doubt pumped up. The adrenaline's pumping, I'm excited as a rabid sports fan as Eli Manning makes a long pass to a receiver for the tie-breaking touchdown. We cheer on, when all in a sudden, one of us experiences chest pain.

    Severe chest pain!

OH, MY FUCKING GOD! ONE OF US HAS A HEART ATTACK!

According to a new study in the New England journal of Medicine, doctors in Germany examined about 4300 patients who had heart-related illnesses. On the day that the German football (soccer) team played, the incidence of cardiac emergencies was 2.66 times the normal control number during a control period, from May 1 to June 8 and July 10-31, 2006, and May 1 to July 31, 2003 and 2005. In men, incidence was 3.26 times that, women, 1.82 times the normal number.

Of course, one of the usual suspects- smoking- is one of the culprits in this. After all, we're watching the game, pretty much sitting on our asses, yelling at the TV screens- and in many cases, forgetting gto take (or even setting aside) our heart medication.

    Steps medical experts suggest:
    1. Stay calm (easier said than done admittedly)
    2. Stay away from the Marlboros, Camels, and Winstons!

    Guiliani Drops Out, Endorses McCain

As expected, Rudolph Guiliani has dropped out of the republican presidential race. Guiliani has endorsed fellow republican, US senator John McCain (Arizona), and McCain feels honored. Guiliani touted McCain's accomplishments- as a POW in the Vietnam War, and his 'straight-talk' on issues.

In the meantime, California govenor Arnold Schwarzenegger may endorse McCain.

No words from the other remaining Republican candidates on Guiliani's departure.

Catholic Church Aghast Over 'Nuns-and-Nudes' Picture

A fitness club ad that features nuns sketching a nude man has the Catholic church up in arms. C.J. Doyle of the Catholic League of Massachusetts says that the ad portrays a "callous contempt for the sensibility of Catholics."

Of course, I'm thinking that if the picture depicted a nude little boy and a pedophile priest enjoying the goods, I think these nimrods would've approved. After all, they want to censor everything and everybody, but they often times forget to watch their tongues- and zippers.

Breaking News: Edwards Quits Presidential Race

In New Orleans, Louisiana, John Edwards has announced that he is dropping out of the 2008 presidential race, which- as expected- leaves the two front-runners, New York senator Hillary Clinton and Illinois senator Barack Obama in what will be a bloodbath from this point on.

Edwards says that he has told both front runners that they have pledged that ending poverty and making equality priorities in the 2008 presidential campaign.

The other hopeful, New Hampshire senator Mike Gravel, is still in this fight. However, he's not getting much love from fellow Democrats.

Students expelled for...kissing on a school bus?

Darren and Wendy sitting on the bus. k-i-s-s-i-n-g.

And then, they got expelled from school. For kissing and necking on the school bus.

That's what happened to a young 17-year-old man, Dominique Goyner.

Richland County schools in South Carolina expelled the pair after video evidence showed them kissing and necking each other. They cited 'sexual misconduct' as the reason.

Hmmm-kay. Two young kids doing what comes naturally, what young people do. They weren't having sex- just kissing. Even if it was heavy petting, still, they didn't deserve expulsion. Suspension, maybe, but not outright expulsion.

This young man seems to have a good head on his shoulder. He has accepted responsibility for his actions, which show me that he's mature. Which is more than I can say for the Richland County School District, in the Columbia, South Carolina area.

Edwards and Guiliani to Drop Out

Two presidential candidates have dropped out.
On the Democratic side, John Edwards, the former senator out of south Carolina, is reportedly calling it quits after constantly coming in third place in the primaries.

Republican Rudolph Guiliani, the former New York mayor, has endorsed John McCain, the senator out of Arizona.

    First, the standings:

DEMOCRATIC: 2,025 (win-loss; percentage, number of delegates won)
    Clinton 4-2, .666, 232
    Obama 2-4, .333, 158
    Edwards 0-6, .000, 62*
    Gravel 0-6, .000, 0

    REPUBLICAN, 1,191
    McCain 3-4, .428, 97
    Romney 3-4, .428, 74
    Huckabee 1-6, .142, 29
    Paul, 0-7, .000, 6
    Guiliani 0-7, .000, 2*

*Edwards and Guiliani are expected to drop out of the race for president January 30, 2008.

The presidential race- especially in the Democratic race- has gotten a lot more interesting. John Edwards' delegate votes are up for grabs. There are only two- actually, three, but Mike Gravel's not being taken seriously- and this fight will get a lot bloodier leading up to the Democratic National convention on August 25-28 in Denver. But by this spring and summer, there will only be one standing. On the Republican side, McCain's win in Florida- and Guiliani's endorsement- has him above Willard 'Mitt' Romney, but it still looks to be a close case of fisticuffs- and perhaps a bloodbath- as the Republican National Convention gets closer. The GOP has its' convention on September 1-4 in St. Paul.

Can McCain hold his lead as he heads into Maine- and more important, Super Tuesday, February 5?

    Bisexuality More Prevalent in Women

According to a new study, the idea that being bisexual being a lifestyle choice- particularly if you're a female- could be shattered (of course, try telling that to Dobson, Robertson, and the evangelical-political crime family).

In 1995, at the University of Utah, Lisa Diamond, associate professpor of psychology and gender studies interviewed 79 women between ages 18-25, who identified themselves as 'lesbian', 'bisexual', or 'unlabeled'. (the fact that this took place in one of the country's most conservative states, and where a controversial religion has a stranglehold on it is- in and of oitself- unique). Over a ten-year period,, Diamond kept in touch with these women, anmd found that in most of these women, bisexuality is a natural state. The findings will be published next week in the January issue of the American Psychological Association's journal
    Developmental Psychology.

    Will Obama Take Florida?

Barack Obama's win in South Carolina appears to have brought his campaign back to life- not that it was on life support in the first place. Given the attacks based on race, where he and opponent Hillary Clinton were fighting tooth and nail for the African-American vote, new life has been breathed into the Illinois senator.

Senator Ted Kennedy has endorsed Obama.

So, the question now is, can he take Florida- or will Clinton take it?

    Here's the latest standings:

    Edwards 0-5, .000, 61
    Gravel 0-5, .000, 0

Breaking News: Obama Wins South Carolina Democratic Primary

The Associated Press and NBC News have projected that US senator Barack Obama (D-Illinois) has won the South Carolina Democratic primary.

According to the report- which I'm getting from the NBC station in Columbia, WIS News 10, large numbers of blacks came out to vote, accounting for about half the state voters.

This primary was pretty heated over issues over race. Both Obama and opponent Hillary Clinton fought vigorously for the black vote.

    Detroit Mayor in Sex Scandal

The mayor of Detroit, Michigan, Kwame Kilpatrick is in the heat of passion- and not the kind one in his position would want to be.

It appears that the 37-year-old mayor may have a lover on the side. He's married to Carlita, and they have three children, but he went ot a North Carolina retreat with a woman, who went by the name 'Carmen Slowski'- after the turtle character in the Comcast high speed Internet commercials.

    'Carmen Slowski' isn't Carlita.

At the heat of this scandal is a series of text messages.

This report below is from the Detroit Free Press. For the latest report, click on the title for the link to WXYZ-TV, the ABC station in Detroit. Apparently, the mayor and his chief of staff Christine Beatty lied about the firings of officers who were investigating the mayor. They also denied that he and Beatty were having an affair.

It looks like Fred Thompson may return to acting now that he has dropped out pf the Republican presidential race.

After finishing third in the South Carolina GOP race, and on the eve of the forthcoming Florida showdown, Thompson called it quits today stating that he hopes "my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort..."
So now that Thompson is out of the race, who will he support? It's still a free for all between McCain, Romney, and Huckabee, with McCain gaining new steam off wins in South Carolina and New Hampshire.

    Romney and Clinton Win Michigan

Willard 'Mitt' Romney's win in the Michigan republican primary has once again put the GOP race for president in a tailspin.

Romney got 39 percent of the vote, but Arizona senator John McCain was on Romney's ass as he got 30% Michael Huckabee, the ex-Governor from Arkansas came in third, with 16%.

On the Democratic side, New York senator Hillary Clinton won, but she didn't get any delegates, due to the Democratic National Committee's decision to penalize Michigan Democrats for holding their primary before February 5.

    Here are the latest standings:

DEMOCRATIC (win-loss, percentage, delegates. Magic number 2,025 delegates)
    Clinton 2-1, .666, 190
    Obama 1-2, .333, 103

    McCain 1-2, .333, 15

    Paul 0-3, .000, 2
    Guiliani 0-3, .000, 1
    Hunter 0-3, .000, 1

Within 60 days, I expect Hunter, Guiliani, and Paul to drop out of the race of hopefuls. Thompson, probably within 60-90 days.

Yeah, I'd Pay $1800 For That

Today's 'wow' factor over the release of the MacBook Air will no doubt carry over to those mac lovers- and business travelers, probably- who feel that the other MacBook models are...well, a bit bulky.

    But enough of that.

I'm convinced enough to get one of those when it comes out in about two to three weeks (according to Apple). Is is the aluminum backing? The nearly paper thin design? Sure, it doesn't have an internal optical drive, but apple does more than make up for that small caveat by just supplying an external model (yeah, an extra $99, but why complain?). The 80GB internal hard drive is small, but so what! Just get a 160-200 GB USB 2.0 external drive and quit bitching.

So, it's as good as in my hands!

Thus Far, Nothing to Ride Home about...AND THEN...

Right now, I'm looking at live coverage of the 2008 Macworld Expo & Conference.

So far, I'm seeing a MIGHTY THUD.

Apple has, so far, released a wireless device called Time Capsule, which is useful with the notebooks. The 500 GB model will run for $299, the 1TB for $499. It ships next month.

Now whether this is worth shelling out $300-500, this remains to be seen.

All new iPhones and iPod touch models will have a Maps feature, and support lyrics from songs being played. Existing iPhone and iPod touch users will have to shell out $20 to upgrade.

iTunes Movie Rental allows users to rent a movie 30 days after they're released on DVD or Blu-Ray. Library titles will go for $2.99, new titles for $3.99.

    NOW I'M EXCITED!
    The rumors are true!
Apple releases a subnotebook called the MacBook air. According to Jobs, it's about as half as thin as a Sony ultraportable model- 0.76" at its' thickest, 0.16 at its' thinnest!

One ships with a 1.8", 80GB hard drive, and the keyboard is backlit. The display is the same as the MacBook, 13.3", runs on a 1.6Ghz or 1.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. It weighs only 3 pounds, has Bluetooth 2.1 and EDR built-in.It has no optical drive, but Apple has designed a $99 model.

The MacBook Air will begin at $1799, and will ship in two weeks.

And there's that annoying 'One More Thing!' bit: Randy Newman playing music as he watches CNBC.

So that's the long and short of things.

The MacBook Air looks pretty useful- for basic tasks. At least it does have a MagSafe adapter cord, but Apple says that it's meant to be wireless. So, it may be worth the $1898- Optical drive included (though I can easily get an external optical drive, or connect it to another Mac).

Otherwise, I'll just spend the $1500 for a MacBook, or $2000 for the lowest end MacBook Pro.

What Will Apple Release This Time?

It's that time again when Apple CEO Steve Jobs takes to the stage at San Francisco's Moscone center for the annual Macworld Expo and Conference keynote address. It is here that Jobs reveals what new products Apple will release, and the state of the Macintosh operating system.

For me, making these predictions is fun, as I'm always anticipating what the folks down in Cupertino will pull from their sleeves.

But also, it gives me an opportunity to make out my wish list to Apple. Yes, I'm beginning to sound like a broken record in this regard, but I have the hope that Steve and company will eventually hear my cries. Eventually. So, here goes on the wish list:

    1. Lower the Prices, Steve!: No doubt Apple wants to make a profit- after all, Steve and the kids have to eat and dress, too (though the jeans and black turtleneck bit, Stevie...a bit long in the tooth...). But if Apple wants a larger share of the computer market- and likely larger profits- it has to lower the prices on their more popular products, like the MacBook and the iMac. To be frank, I'd love to see the price on the professional video editing suite Final Cut Studio 2 slashed by at least $300. If Sony can sell Vegas Pro 8 for $600, Then Apple can do this for under $1000- $900, or even $1000 is good.
    2. Make the keyboard and mouse standard in the Mac mini: The BYOKM (bring your own keyboard and mouse) bit's okay. But some of us Mac-heads are on budgets. It won't cost much- if anything- to include the keyboard and mouse to the budget Mac desktop.
    3. Apple and NBC- Can't we all get along?: Apple and NBC need to kiss and make up. Again, I know you CEOs and top management have to eat, too, but we don't need to lose body parts just to download our favorite programs. $1.99 is, well, okay. But if the prices drop to, say, $1.29, or even 99 cents per download, more people will flock to those sites. The more people, the more money. The more money made...see where this conversation's going? And while I'm on the price slashing bit (again), perhaps Apple could now drop the song downloading price down to 49 cents, or even 25 cents per download. That's not too much to ask. Again, the lower the price, the more people...
    4. I know that this is wishful thing, but I'd love to see Apple start placing Intel Inside stickers on their computers. Don't be ashamed to flaunt it, baby!

That's just some of the things I'd love to see from Apple. Now, let's touch base on predictions.

For years now, every seer-wannabe (yours truly included) makes predictions on what Apple will release at Macworld. Not every prediction is right (hell, I should know!), but on some, we're right on the money. So here's what I think Apple will give us today:

    1. A Tablet Mac: Sorry, Apple, but a company called Axiotron (http://axiotron.com/ ) was first out of the gate with the world's first tablet Mac. But Apple will likely release its' own- that is if it doesn't buy the Axiotron company first just to get Axiotron's ModBook.
    2. The iPhone will get third party software- and even allow AT&T users to switch to other carriers: I know that this is possibly the worst kept secret, but come February, Apple will allow third parties to add software and widgets to the iPhone. After all, Apple will do the same for a newly upgraded iPod touch, speaking of which...
    3. Updated versions of the MacBook and MacBook Pro: Those two speedsters have been getting faster and stronger at each turn. Apple will continue to place faster Intel Core 2 Duo chips inside, and the top-of the-line MacBook Pro may even be the first to get the Core 2 Quad chips. We may even see a redesign of sorts.
    4. Perhaps Steve will announce the next generation of the Mac OS- perhaps even the name...or even Mac OS 11. Interesting.

I'll be back later today to talk about the releases. Until then, enjoy the keynote address- which is at 9 this morning (Pacific time, 12 Eastern).

    No Tears for Marion Jones

First, Olympic track star Marion Jones gets stripped of her medals.
Then she gets sentenced six months for lying to a federal judge about her use of steroids (she also got an addition two months on a separate case...).

And she wants our sympathy. After all, she has babies at home, and she doesn't want to be without them.

    Boo-hoo, baby!

You know, it would be easy- as a black man- to say "hey, y'all just don't like to see a black person to succeed." First off, that, of course, is 99.9999% hogwash, and two, that would be like saying that a child molester got a too harsh of a sentence just because his overactive hormones controlled his brain. Again, bull-fucking-shit! S/He could go and get help to get those urges under control.

This sentencing continues a domino effect that's rippling throughout the sports world. at least two major sports leagues- Major League Baseball, and the National Football League- have joined up with the U.S. Olympic committee to stem the tide of drug/HGH (human group hormone) doping. The National Basketball Association, National Hockey League, and Professional Golfers association are expected to join the NFL and MLB.

Personally, I couldn't care less about who uses steroids or HGH. If the responsible parties feel that it helps them, what's the harm? on the other hand, many people- mainly our nation's youth- look up to these sports (and in many cases, Hollywood) personalities as role models.

But as one sports personality states, they're not really role models, are they?

    Just a thought.

    John Kerry Endorses Obama

Barack Obama has picked up a key endorsement today when Massachusetts senator John Kerry.

Kerry feels that Obama has the "moral compass to bring the country back together." Now Kerry is doing this on the eve of the South Carolina primary, scheduled for January 26.

I can't help but ask the question, "How is Hillary Clinton taking this?" After all, when she won on Tuesday in New Hampshire, the gloves came off. She's probably isn't very happy about Kerry courting some neophyte Illinois senator. But, hey, it's Kerry's choice. So...

IN the meantime, Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has pulled ads from South Carolina, on the eve of Saturday's Republican debate.

    Richardson to end presidential Bid

Sources close to New Mexico governor Bill Richardson say that he will drop out of the 2008 presidential race Thursday. Richardson has posted fourth-place showings in both the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary. He has 19 delegates committed to his run, so there's no word on which candidates those 19 will support once he leaves the race.

Richardson will be the third candidate to drop out, after Joe Biden and Chris Dodd. This will leave five hopefuls- Clinton; Obama; Edwards; Kucinich; and Gravel- left in the race. Money and the low numbers of votes are cited.

He is expected to make this announcement public on Thursday.

Clinton and McCain Win in New Hampshire

    veracifier/TPM/ABC News/YouTube.com

It must've been the crocodile tears that bamboozled some of these voters, but Hillary Clinton managed to win the New Hampshire Democratic presidential primary, as she narrowly beat out challenger Barack Obama, 39% to 36%. She wowed 46% of the female vote, while Obama took 40% of the male vote.

On the Republicqn side, Arizona senator John McCain gained second wind as he beat out challenger Mitt Romney, 37%- 32%.

This pretty much puts the presidential campaign in a tailspin.

Standings (states won- states lost, percentage, number of delegates):
    DEMOCRATIC- Magic Number: 2,025 delegates
    Clinton 1-1, .500, 183 delegates
    Obama 1-1, .500, 78
    Edwards, 0-2, .000, 52
    Richardson 0-2, .000, 19
    Kucinich, 0-2, .000, 1
    Gravel, 0-2, .000, 0

    REPUBLICAN- 1,191
    Romney 1-2, .333, 30
    Huckabee, 1-2, .333, 21
    McCain 1-2, .333, 10
    Thompson, 0-3, .000, 6
    Paul 0-3, .000, 2
    Guiliani 0-3, .000, 1
    Hunter 0-3, .000, 1

It would be easy to say that Guiliani, Paul, and Hunter could be out of the race within 60 days. But, McCain's win tonight proves that anything can happen. The same goes for Clinton on the Democrat side. She was considered battered after her loss in the Iowa caucus, but after she talked with a voter who made her cry- and, who by the way, voted for Obama- she appeared to regain her footing. Going into next week's Michigan primaries, it's pretty much a three-way race with Romney, Huckabee, and McCain on the Republican side. Whoever wins Michigan will probably go on to win on Super Tuesday, February 5. For the Democrats, Clinton's win could be the start of a surge- but Obama won't make it easy for her as this race moves on.

Welcome to Notes From the Hardcore Edge (Formerly "The View From Planet Alex")

Hi, for those of you who were expecting The View From Planet Alex, well, you're still here.

Only, as promised, I did a title change- and that's not the only thing that will change. But I'll point those out in due time.

But first, I'll explain how this title came about. About 20 years ago (actually 19 this month), I decided to do this newsletter about "the most happening events and lives". In other words, kind of a light hearted, light news, if you will, journal. I was at the Newport Music Hall, on the south campus district of Columbus, Ohio- and right across from the Ohio Union (of the Ohio State University) on North High Street- that I came up with this title (and a pretty godawful cold the next day...ugh!).

So, Notes From the Hardcore Edge was born.

I talked about my relationships, news, and whatever else that happened. I would release this thing on Monday nights.

So, as I was in bed last night, I thought about the changes I would make for this blog, and thought about changing the title to The DWA Musings. Initially, I was going to phase out the newsier stuff and just focus on me. But then, I realized that I could change a hardly used sister blog to that title, so now you have three to choose from:

NOTES FROM THE HARDCORE EDGE (formerly The View From Planet Alex) will continue to deal with the news events, and my opinions on them.
THE TRASH BASH will continue to deal with the wacky world of Hollyweird...um, Hollywood, and entertainment in general (note: I'm, a little late in getting that 2007 review going, but I promise to take care of this this week).
THE DWA MUSINGS is a new blog that just focuses on one person- ME! ME! ME! My world and welcome to it. I'll talk about my relationships, what I do, and much more.

Now there is a blog called THE TWILIGHT that I contribute to from time to time. So, when I put in an entry there, I'll direct you to the link to it.

One of the features that will come to NFTHE will be THE WEEK IN BRIEF. This feature will take a look at the past weeks news and events. This will be published on Monday nights.

As you can see, I changed the design of the blog a bit. A more pleasing design, if you will. As video is already available- mostly courtesy of YouTube (soon I'll add my own as well)- I'll add in pictures as well. Everything I can to make this a much more exciting blog.

This is the second title change since I've moved to the Blogger.com site in November 2005 (entries prior to November 2005 are carry overs from a previous blog site is now defunct).

I hope you continue to enjoy this blog.

Huckabee and Obama First Out of the Gate in Iowa.

    veracifier/YouTube

The endorsement from actor/martial arts legend Chuck Norris must be good to former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee. He won the Iowa Republican caucus yesterday. With this good news comes word that he appears to beating the ass out of fellow Republican Mitt Romney going into Tuesday's New Hampshire primary. (source: http://www.boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2008/01/huckabee_moves_1.html ).

According to the AP, however, John McCain- who came in fourth, behind winner Mike Huckabee; Mitt Romney, and Fred Thompson- is a prime target in New Hampshire, even as Huckabee leads there.

    USPolitics/YouTube

Oprah Winfrey must be a good luck charm for US senator Barack Hussein Obama, the Democrat out of Illinois. He won the Democratic caucus.

    dunkafelic/YouTube

However, going into the New Hampshire primary, he trails Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton by six percentage points- 32% to 26%. It still appears to be close, though, so anything can happen between now and Tuesday. Obama, according to the AP, is also a target, given his win last night. Clinton came in third in the Iowa caucus, with John Edwards in second.

Don't Support Huckabee- OR ELSE!: Ministers Warned

Today ,the first presidential primary election in Iowa takes place. Already, there's a sign that the 2008 presidential campaign is going to be very, very, VERY nasty!

Pastors in several Iowa churches received letters warning that supporting former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, one of the Republican hopefuls- and a Southern Baptist- could cause the churches to lose their tax-exempt status. One such church received a second, alleging that the Internal Revenue Service is looking for churches that back candidates in "violation of tax rules".

The Huckabee campaign is considering a criminal investigation.

You can get the story from KCCI-TV, Des Moines. Just click on the title.

Also, you've probably already seen this ad from the McCain campaign

Get ready, folks. It's gonna be a bumpy ride.

As this campaign season wears on, there will be plenty more mud slinging, fisticuffs- verbal anyway- and definitely backstabbing. In other words, the real life soap opera has just premiered, and we're all a part of it.

Better wear the rain coats and bring the shovels. The shit's starting to pile up.

Here's a explanation of the Iowa caucus, courtesy of Slate.com: (just click below)

New Year. New Opportunities (Old Problems Creating New Tricks)

    Welcome to 2008.

I went to the (Labor Ready) office downtown this morning. A few folks went out to a furniture store, but otherwise, it was slow. Still, I won't give up.

In the news, the CIA is on the wrong side of a criminal investigation. This over the reported burning of tapes where interogations went, well, awry. And here in Portland, Oregon, Eric Sten, one of the city commissioners- is calling it quits after over 15 years in public office.

But the thing I talk about the changes I'm about to go through in 2008. Now, 2007 wasn't completely a washout. After all, I've managed to get published twice in two local anthologies ("Pierced Body Parts" in See the Water Rise, and "Venice on the Scioto in Unexpected Metaphors). And 40 hasn't been too cruel, despite the occasional pain in the knees and back. In other words, 2007's been real nice over all.

But now that we're in 2008- and the rain has returned to the Northwest (it's driving me nuts! Must hang in there, though. After all, we have 364 days of this year left, and before you know it, it'll be sunny and even warmer here)- this means that changes are afoot. In 2008, I've made a lot pf plans. I'll run a few by you:

    • GET IN SHAPE!: Sure, I've been skinny throughout my nearly 41 years on the planet. But I'm started to get a bit of a beer gut. Not that anything's wrong with that, but I'd love to get a sculpted body. Which isn't going to happen anytime soon, right?
    • WRONG!

    • PrfctPushup/YouTube

In the coming weeks, I'll get the Perfect Pushup system. What will result- with regular workouts- is a more defined body. Chiseled abs, larger and ripped chest and arms. And definitely more looks. Not long after I get the Perfect Pushup set, I'll add in the Bowflex select Tech 1090 dumbbell set. Before long, I'll look like the hottie that I am.

I'll provide the 'before' and 'after' pictures, with progress reports along the way.
    • TAKE FILMMAKING AND ACTING CLASSES: For years, I've wanted to do this film production gig. About three years ago, I operated an Aaton A-Minima motion picture camera (in an impromptu class). This July, I'll head off to New York to take an eight-week class. Create 4 short films, and help produce about two dozen others. I'll show the fruits of my labors here as well.
    • NEW TITLE FOR THIS BLOG: I kind of like the current title (I just may keep it). But the only constant, as we know, is change. Yes, change is a bitch at times, but if we don't change, likely, we won't grow, right? So look for a new title sometime this winter or spring.
    • PAY OFF DEBTS: Those monkeys called bills. I want them off my back. Get my credit rating back to 600 or better. So, this year, at some point, every bill and debt I've accrued will be kaputski! Gone like a freight train/Gone like yesterday/Gone like a soldier in a Civil War bang bang!...my innner Montgomery Gentry takes over.
    • GET LAID MUCH MORE OFTEN: I know, it's not about quantity, but...um...I'll touch more on that later. Thing is, though, as I work out, and do some major wardrobe changes as well (and get more 'cocky and funny'), I'll get more women. More women means I get more ass than a toilet seat. I get to be a lot of womens' underwear.

That's just a few things on tap for '08.

Oh, by the way. You've probably noticed at the Copyright notice the name The DWA Organisation. This is because I've created a media production entity, so I'm in the process of making this a legally recognized corporation (probably a LLC- limited liability company, or perhaps a C or S corporation. I'll learn more on the types as I go along).

Have a fun, great, sexy, wild, wonderful- and safe!- 2008
