Just after Illinois senator Barack Obama claimed victory in the Democratic presidential race, he and wife Michelle bumped fists. You saw the footage, right?

Redneck News? Think rednecks do the pound fist, too? Hmmm...anyway. It was the 'fist bump' heard around the world, and apparently not everyone understands what it means. I know what you're thinking, "it's a black thing I'll probably never understand...", even though a lot of folks of all ethnicities do this these days. Just like gangsta rap, right? (But that's neither here nor there at this juncture...).
Okay, I won't say that black folks invented the 'gimme five slap', but they knew how to redefine it. Just like the 'fist bump'. Kind of like a 'high five', if you will. Now, I don't claim to be an expert on this, so I went to Wikipedia for some kind of answer. According to Wikipedia, in Jamaica, it's seen as a sign of respect.
But whatever the origins, it seems pretty cool. And when the Obamas did theirs last night, it was like the sloppy spit swapping of Al and Tipper Gore from 2000- only much less showy and much less...um, sloppier. It (the Obama 'fist bump') was tasteful; showed class. Showed that the man who may be our next president is hip, accessible, and who knows? He may actually be the one who is much more honest that the current occupant of the Oval Office.
