    Spanking May Cause Sexual Problems...Riiiiight!

According to a series of studies done by Murray Strauss, co-director of the Family Research Lab at University of New Hampshire-Durham, spanking the wee ones now may cause sexual problems later. Those problems include coercion; engaging in risky behavior; and- get this!- getting sexual arousal by spanking. Be it on the giving end or the receiving end.

WHAT IN THE NAME OF JUDAS WERE THESE FOLKS SMOKING? Oh, the disgrace! The utter disgust of getting sexual arousal from getting spanked and/or spanking someone. YUCK!

Wait a sec, spanking some lovely woman on the ass DOES TURN ME ON. THE HARDER, THE MORE AROUSED!

At any rate, the studies- another one was done by the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (duh! The main campus IS IN ANN ARBOR!)- say that when those kids grow up, they may equate spanking with love.

Not that anything is wrong with that.

Of course, not every loving relationship involves nice red palm prints on the arse, but come on, some disciplinary action done by parents won't harm the kids- Straus, 81,says so himself.

National Review Founder William F. Buckley, Jr. Dead at 82

Republicans- and in a few cases, Democrats- revered him. He was the darling of the conservative movement.

Today, the founder of the conservative magazine National Review, William Frank Buckley, Jr. died while in his study at his Stamford, Connecticut home. He was also a syndicated columnist and host of PBS' Firing Line.

In 1955, he founded National Review. He has written over 50 books as well.

Here is a debate from Firing Line with author Noam Chomsky, from 1969: (both clips from Proverbs 13i16/YouTube/PBS)

    Buckley was 82.

Inoperative Spy Satellite Successfully Shot Down

This is like Star Trek or Star Wars- only, it's real. And it's really beautiful.

A U.S. spy satellite that was launched in late 2006, and lost power almost immediately. It began spiraling down to earth- at 17,000 MPH (27,540 KPH). The satellite contained a toxic fuel called hydrazine, inside a tank weighing over 1,000 pounds. Had the satellite not been shot down, that hydrazine would've presented a health risk- it's like breathing in ammonia and chlorine, but more toxic- and a national security risk (can you say al Qaida, or even China?).

Instead, the ballistic defense cruiser USS Lake Erie deploiyed a non-explosive missle to intercept the satellite. The missle hit its' mark, and according to a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General James Cartwright, USMC, much of the debris will burn within two days.

Former Canton Police Officer Found Guilty

I know one thing for certain. Former Canton, Ohio police officer Robert Cutts, Jr. will go down, and go down big on February 25, when the sentencing phase of his murder trial begins.

Cutts was found guilty of two counts of aggravated murder- one for purposely causing the unlawful termination of Jessie Davis' pregnancy, and purposely causing the death of a viable, unborn child under age of 13. One count of aggravated murder, trespassing into Jessie Davis' home; two counts on gross abuse of a corpse for treating the corpse of Jessie Davis, and the unborn child baby Chloe; and one count of child endangering for creating substantial risk to Blake Davis in leaving him unattended at home.

He was found not guilty on the charge of aggravated murder of purposely causing the death of Jessie Davis, but instead was found guilty on a lesser charge of murder.

Jessie Davis was found in a field in Summit County, Ohio- outside the county seat of Akron- last summer.

So my question is how could a man- who has sworn to protect and serve not just the citizens of Canton (which is the county seat of Stark County)- but also the very lives of Jessie Marie Davis and his unborn daughter, Chloe, take them away? What kind of pressure was he facing? He was a married man, and if I'm correct, the son Blake was also his with Jessie.

Why did Robert kill her? A report, which you can clicke here at http://wkyc.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=83391 mentions that Cutts killed Jessie just avoid paying more child support. Cutts says, however, that the killing was accidental.

So, if he accidentally killed Jessie, why couldn't he first call his fellow officers on 9-1-1, and tell them what happened? Had he done this, perhaps he wouldn't be facing the death penalty right now. He probably would've served, say, 10 years- perhaps some time off for good behavior- and even though he probably wouldn't be able to get back into uniform (then again...), he could still be a productive member of society. But now, it's likely that he'll be sitting on death row in Lucasville (where the maximum security prison is located, just 80 miles south of Columbus- and about 15 miles north of Portsmouth).

All because he couldn't control his temper.

The tragic end of an already troubled law enforcement career.

    Shooting at Northern Illinois University

Right now, officials are wondering why a man, dressed in black jeans and beanie cap, shot eighteen- four of them are dead- students before killing himself at Northern Illinois University, in Dekalb, 65 miles outside of Chicago. The shooter was a white male and not a student at NIU, and there is no motive known at this time.

This shooting happened at around 3:00PM Central Time (1:00PM Pacific Time) in a lecture hall, Cole Hall.

I have the link to the ABC station in Chicago, WLS-TV/DT, where you can get the latest on this tragic event.

It must be noted that this shooting took place almost a year after the horrific massacre, where Seung Cho killed 32 of his fellow students before killing himself.

Scientology: Here to Help, or a Cult?

I came across a group of people near the Portland Scientology church this morning. They gave me some pamphlets to look at.

Now, as everyone knows, The Church of Scientology- founded by Lafayette Ron Hubbard in 1952- is the controversial faith that has major film stars- such as Tom Cruise, Kirstie Alley, and Issac Hayes, among others. Scientology believes that man is immortal, and says that it's the study and
handling of the spirit in relation to self and others. They claim that one doesn't need drugs- legal or otherwise- to cure whatever ails people.

Here is the recent informercial from the Scientology group: (I think...)

    Aletuk/YouTube

But BBC reporter John Sweeney reveals a different story.
On the program Panaroma- kind of a British 60 Minutes- did an expose on the faith.
    All clips courtesy of theholefiller/YouTube:

In the first clip, John Travolta mentioned that had Elvis Presley or Marilyn Monroe been in Scientology, they'd still been in alive.

My question, if Scientology is supposed to help folks, how come- not unlike the Jehovah's Witnesses, an equally controversial faith- families get broken up due to conversion to this faith?

In this second clip you just saw, they mentioned Fair Game, a Scientology move to "deprived of property, or injured by any means by any Scientologist...may be tricked, sued, or lied to or destroyed..." (http://xenu.net/archive/disk/fairgame.htm ).

This Tommy Davis seems to be quite paranoid. He keeps following Mr. Sweeney around just to make sure the truth doesn't come out.

Now, if I'm correct, didn't Sweeney try to come to an agreement with Scientology officials. But apparently, one mention of the word 'cult', they shut down.

Tommy Davis seems have this ingrown hair up his ass. John Sweeney wants answer- fair and balanced, no doubt. But Davis just wants Sweeney to shut the fuck up.

In this fourth clip, the folks that claim to help people seems to want to intimidate the critics.

For folks who claim to be 'clear', they seem to be more paranoid than one can claim.

To John Sweeney of the BBC, I salute you. If you felt that you let your news team down, don't feel that way. You gave the Scientologists every benefit of the doubt. You did everything you could to get all sides, and the truth.

To the Scientologists, if you are who you say you are- people who want to help others to become 'clear', and that you care, that's fine. But the footage I've watched brings serious doubts about your intentions. Sure, you have a right to answer your critics. But intimidation and stalking, in my opinion, are not the ways to answer those who disagree with you.

And you, Tommy Davis, you are one big pussy! Mr. Sweeney wasn't calling the Church of Scientology a 'cult', per se. He was just saying that "many people call it a cult." And to make myself clear, Tommy, I'm not specificially calling it a 'cult'. You twist the words around to your little narrow minded thinking. If you want people to believe that you're a bonafide religion, you've got to do a much better job, stop intimidating people and following them around. That to me- the stalking, and the threats- shows signs of severe paranoia.

And I thought the Church of Scientology didn't believe in paranoia. So much for being in the state of 'clear'. If that's the state of 'clear' in Scientology- your outbursts and stalking- I'd hate to see the state of paranoia.

Dobson Tells McCain "To Hell With You!"

The conservative website WorldNetDaily.com reports that James Dobson, the head of Focus on the Family will not endorse to Arizona senator John McCain for president, citing McCain's lack of support for a federal marriage amendment.

    No skin off McCain's ass.

    Here's the latest standings:
    McCain 3-4, .428, 97 delegates
    Romney 4-7, .571, 92
    Huckabee 1-6, .143, 29
    Paul 0-7, .000, 6

I'm not posting the Democratic standings because they didn't hold a primary in Maine-they'll hold theirs February 10.

In the meantime, Super Tuesday is the focus of attention. McCain could pretty much lock up the Republican nomination on Tuesday, according to some sources. However, on the Democrats' side, the slugfrest between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama could go on past tomorrow. Thing is, if Clinton wins at least 12 of the states, she'll retain her lead. On the other hand, if Obama wins at least 11, he could snatch the slim lead from Clinton. So this is anybody's fight.

Oregon Domestic Partnership Law becomes Law

Come Monday, the Oregon Domestic Partnership law, that was passed by the Oregon Legislature, and challenged by an out-of-state opposition group, will become law.

Judge Michael Mosman, who initially put the law on hold, stated that the opponents to the law, Alliance Defense Fund, had indeed failed to gather the necessary number of signatures.

So, hats off to you Judge Mosman (I forgive you for hanging around President Bush too long...), and Basic Rights oregon. Now all couples- gay and straight- can enjoy the rights that marriage and domestic partnerships can offer.

    The California Democratic Debate

    All Clips: Hobobob10/YouTube/CNN

The opening seems like a sporting event, with Wolf Blitzer and his sideline reporters talking about what each team will have to do to win, and what strategies each will use. Obama acknowleges Edwards, and that he'll be a friend to the senator- and ex-first lady- from New York even as they tear each others' throats out.

    How charming.

According to NewsMax, the conservative magazine, Hillary is headed for a crash. Funny, she looks quite ravishing...I think.

    Clinton also acknowledges John Edwards.

She mentions that the differences between her and Obama in health care. she believes that we need universal health care. (Heard of the Oregon Health Plan, Hil?) She also wants to freeze interest rates for five years. Obama says that reducing costs in health care would be better, opposed to the Universal plan Clinton endorses.
Of course, he's against the War on Terrorism- been so since day one. I don't like the war myself, but we're in it, so we've got to win it in the end.

On health care, he wants it mandatory for children.

    (yd2008/YouTube/CNN)

Both agree that something needs to be done about the hemmoraging southern border. Clinton wants to help Mexico create better jobs. Both agree that those who are in this country illegally can go on a path of legal citizenship, provided that they pay the fines and back taxes.

With Super Tuesday looming, both candidates are- doubtlessly- fighting tooth and nail for the vote. just like in the Republican race for the nomination, whoever wins the majority of the twenty states this Tuesday will likely go on to win the nomination in Denver.

But as close as this race on the Democrat side is, it could pretty much end up as a toss up.
